Want to get in to Torrenting but I'm pretty useless with most technology and I have no idea where to start. I have a MacBook as well so I don't want to risk doing it wrong and getting viruses and what not. Basically any help would be appreciated. Would love to know what Torrent Software/Torrents to use for HD tv shows (minus any malware) and basically just how the whole deal works haha.
Please and thank you. 1) Search- as the sidebar says. I got some good results just entering 'noob' into the search box and restricting the search to this sub-reddit.
Try also 'best client' = best software as that discussion occurs almost daily. I don't use a Mac so I can't comment on that one. 2) There are two kinds of tracker (= set of torrents with a website and community round them)- public and private. If you use public (as suggested by your first answer) it is wise to take some security precautions - see or daily discussions here. If you go private, look at and look for sites where all you have to do is sign up.
On that sub there are endless discussions about what the best place is for X or Y. Private trackers can be very lively and informed communities, as well as having good quality guarantees.
3) The risk of viruses is small if you don't download.exe files and that sort of thing. 4) Feel free to post anything you don't follow, but be as specific as you can and always search first, because the questions are asked over and over and over again.
I use qbittorrent its amazing, i mainly use kat.cr and ukbay.cc (thepiratebay mirror) and these sites have a flair to distinguish the trusted big uploaders so always download from them and try to avoid downloading from small, unkown uploaders unless you have to, and always read the comments to make sure, usually its easy to spot fakes as they tend to release somethings not yet released or have shady discription or have a huge number of seeds. And use a vpn if you're in a country that goes after torrent users.
